Mental Health Counselor (part-time)

Position Summary

Are you an Oregon licensed (or license eligible) counselor, social worker or psychologist with a desire to work with university populations? Concordia University has a 9.5-month part-time assignment from August through approximately May 15 that might be a dream job for someone with the right qualifications!

The counselor is responsible for providing culturally sensitive counseling services over a wide range of issues and diagnoses to Concordia University students.

 

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Master’s Degree from an accredited program in mental health counseling, counseling / clinical psychology, social work or equivalent.

Hold and maintain licensure as a counselor/therapist, psychologist, or social worker in the state of Oregon; or is license-eligible and able to obtain state of Oregon licensure within 6 months of employment.

3+ years’ counseling/clinical experience; experience in a diverse higher education environment preferred.

Work Schedule

Approximately 25 hours/wk during typical operating hours (Mon-Fri between 8:30am-5pm); occasional evening and weekend event coverage.

Annual schedule: This is a 9.5-month assignment from August 1 through approximately May 15.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

· Provide individual, couples and group counseling to all students.

 

· Provide triage, crisis intervention and management and risk assessment.

 

· Provide professional consultation and community referral to students, faculty, staff, and parents.

 

· Assist with development and implementation of Prevention and Outreach education programs, specifically Concordia’s DAAPP (Drug and Alcohol Abuse Prevention Program) and Biennial Review in collaboration with multiple departments.

 

· Design and deliver mental health related training to student leadership groups.

 

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Students (including spouses and parents), faculty and administrative staff via email, telephone and in-person communications.

 

Scope of Work

Provides advice and consultation to students in order to enhance their overall health and academic potential. Work requires specialized education and expertise in field of practice, as well as knowledge of institution policies and practices. Analyzes and recommends best course of action in individual cases. Works with confidential and time-sensitive information pertaining to students.

Able to tolerate prolonged sitting.

Able to perform repetitive typing and computer work.

Able to walk indoors and outdoors in order to move from one campus building to another.

Able to lift, pull, grasp, stoop and reach within an office environment.

Able to effectively participate in two way conversations in person, on the phone and via written communications.

Able to lift and carry 5 lbs. on an occasional basis.

 

Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)

Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Able to effectively interact with a diverse population of students. Consistently demonstrate multicultural awareness and empathy.

Willing to take initiative to meet new people, address problems and influence successful outcomes.

Strong problem-solving and listening skills.

Excellent time management and organizational skills. Able to complete work in a timely manner while managing a high volume student caseload.

Able to effectively use administrative software, the Microsoft Office suite, network drives and electronic folder systems. Preferred: experience with Titanium EMR software.

Able to comply with all federal and state laws relating to mental health services.

Able to maintain confidentiality and handle confidential information with excellent judgement, tact and discretion. Able to fully comply with all confidentiality rules and guidelines.

Flexible to work evenings and weekends as required by work events.
